Interviewed by Seiminthang Haokip,
Dated: 12th Sept. 2018

Mark Haokip, a prominent leader and a non-violent political campaigner, is an optimistic and presently most influential political leader amongst the Kuki society. He sees the future of Kuki political unification excerpted from the historical and linguistic demarcated Kuki Independent Hill Country recorded by the colonial government. He had once written the Independent Kukiland cannot be dilapidated by any external forces because it had been since 1904 demarcated under the shared forces togetherly supporting the historical and linguistic philosophy in a form of Linguistic Survey of India (1904) Vol. III, Part III aggrandized by an eminent linguistic scientist like G.A Gierson. From a practical point of view, as stated by Haokip, is true that Kukis are qualified for international politics to regain their age-old sovereignty into modern democratic Nation-State.

Following the international political philosophy in the post World War-2, Kukis are directly qualified to reattain their freedom preceding to the United Nations’ Resolution number 1415 adopted on December 16, 1960, which stated ‘Declaration of Independence to Colonial Countries’ with effective and revised resolutions. And, Mr Haokip also warned neighbouring countries not to blighted Kukiland by such unrecognized different political names since it is one such umbrella feasible to use only in the geographical areas of their own occupancies inside Kukiland. And realistically, he also throws more pragmatic sources that people of Northeast Indian are biblically and genealogically linked with Kuki-Manasseh ancestry.

1. Why is it necessary to observe the Kuki Black Day?

Mark Haokip: The official observance of the Kuki Black Day had been protecting the Kukis from a daylight hatched conspiracy aimed the elimination on the root of Kukis’ socio-political life and historical heritage from our own land, the Kuki independent hill country.

2. What has been achieved thus far in our 25 yrs of observance?
Mark Haokip: It also appears significantly bar the unethically fashioned Indo-Naga peace process which aimed to demolishes the Kukis and their land. Furthermore, it has also been ushering the Kukis to scudding our enemies’ advantages to sabotage our identity. Along with this lines, the observance of Kuki Black Day had also aspired the genocide cases before the international law and Kuki Organization for Human Rights is one such qualified organisation attained Special Consultative Status in the United Nations for the protection of Kuki rights and privileges at the international level.

3. Why is justice denied to Kukis? What is the way forward?

Mark Haokip: Since the genocide had been indirectly or directly carried out by India. And additionally, the technical affiliation of Kuki Organization for Human Rights (KOHUR) accepted and recognized by the UNPFII needs to be retrospect before it is too late. If the system is absence with technical issues or misreading the UN’s technical administrative philosophy it could not positively work out any visible development thereof. Remarkably, justice seems denied for the Kukis because of such technical blunder. Human Rights organization should not be administrated similar to a village youth clubs administrative model. For that reason, overall retrospection is needed at these hours.

4. Why the Govt of India is following the appeasement policy with the perpetrators of the Kuki genocide instead of given justice to the victims of the program.

Mark Haokip: The Government of India was the primary conspirator of effectuating such a horrendous Kuki pogrom clubbed secretly with the NSCN-IM. As such, justices are being denied in India. If she does not abnegate daylight crime, justice shall be exposed before international laws and could denounce her as a terrorist state. Thus, the international economic sanction could be scripted over India. Vaguely, the apprehension of fear on this had escorted them to renounce justice on Kuki genocide.

5. Should Kukis cease to observe Black day if Govt of India addresses our concern by giving justice in the form of compensation, rehabilitation or resettlement?

Mark Haokip: Kukis will not halt observing Kuki Black Day until achieving a full restoration of Kuki freedom. And we don’t need justice addressed in a form of compensation, rehabilitation and resettlement. We always need to bring out justice in the form of drawing a political and geographical boundary between Kukiland and India. Considering the genocide, Kukis were massacred because we have land, history and government always fit to be established a modern democratic sovereign state since long before sovereign India was born.
